When installing updates, always make sure you have enough time to let your computer finish. Never turn off your machine when in the middle of an update.
You could have a machine that won’t boot up and, in the worst-case scenario, require replacement hardware, which can be a very expensive mistake!
As Apple themselves state: Important: Do not interrupt the update process.
